From 18 November 2025, UK company law has changed. If you’re a company director or a Person with Significant Control (PSC), you must verify your identity with Companies House. This is part of a government initiative to make the register more secure and prevent fraud.

What does this mean for you?

  • You cannot form a new company, become a director, or file certain documents unless your identity is verified.
  • You’ll receive a Companies House personal code once verified. This links your identity to your company role.

How can you verify?

  1. Directly with Companies House using GOV.UK One Login.
  2. Through an ACSP (Authorised Corporate Service Provider).

What happens if you don’t verify?

  • You risk penalties, delays, and even being unable to act as a director.

What you’ll need:

  • Photo ID (passport or driving licence)
  • Proof of address history
