From 18 November 2025, UK company law has changed. If you’re a company director or a Person with Significant Control (PSC), you must verify your identity with Companies House. This is part of a government initiative to make the register more secure and prevent fraud.
What does this mean for you?
- You cannot form a new company, become a director, or file certain documents unless your identity is verified.
- You’ll receive a Companies House personal code once verified. This links your identity to your company role.
How can you verify?
- Directly with Companies House using GOV.UK One Login.
- Through an ACSP (Authorised Corporate Service Provider).
What happens if you don’t verify?
- You risk penalties, delays, and even being unable to act as a director.
What you’ll need:
- Photo ID (passport or driving licence)
- Proof of address history
